Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)

Investment capital of over US$199 million from permitted foreign enterprises have entered Myanmar in first two months of present fiscal year (FY) 2020-2021 which started in October, comprising of 14 foreign investment enterprises. During the period, manufacturing sector attracted most investment capital with over US$143 million, followed by the service sector with over US$27 million and livestock and fisheries sector with over US$11 million. Myanmar saw more than US$5.52 billion in FDI (jumping from US$3.2 and US$4.3 billion in the last two quarters) in 12 months of the previous 2019-20 fiscal year (FY) which ended on 30 September. During the period, the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) approved 245 foreign investment enterprises. The power industry saw most investment capital having more than US$1.67 billion, as the manufacturing (US$1.12 billion) and real estate (US$1.11) followed. The amount of total foreign investment capital did not meet the target of US$5.8 billion in last FY 2019-2020, but increased by over US$1.36 billion compared to FY 2018-2019 when it was over US$4.15 billion, the figures said.

Singapore, China and Thailand are largest investors in Myanmar.
